School Law

Schools have a different disciplinary procedure than most any other public or private organization. The rights of students, parents, and teachers are subject to a host of administrative actions that are typically handled through a series of hearings and departmental decisions. There may be instances where 1st Amendment rights are trampled upon, students are subjected to stringent codes of conduct, or a student is denied access to special education. At other times, students are subject to suspension or expulsion due to a disciplinary problem, bringing their entire educational career to a halt. You need to know where to turn when these issues occur, as they can have a negative impact on a child’s ability to learn, stifle a teacher’s desire to teach, or disrupt your home life. We have represented students in disciplinary hearings, special education staffings, due process hearings and federal courts throughout the state on a wide range of school related issues. With extensive experience in this highly technical area, our goal is always the same: preserve rights, and restore peace of mind.
